Paws & Picnics: The Best Summer Days Out in Yorkshire with Your Dog

  • by Jade Banham

Yorkshire summers are made for adventures, sunshine, rolling hills, and happy paws trotting alongside you. Whether you’re in the cobbled charm of Hebden Bridge or the historic market town of Skipton, you’re perfectly placed for some of the best dog-friendly walks and picnic spots in Yorkshire.

At Kibble Bakery - your favourite dog-friendly cafe in Hebden Bridge and Skipton, we know that the best days out end with wagging tails and full bellies. So here are some of our favourite local and nearby spots to explore this summer, plus a few ideas for treats to take with you.

1. Hardcastle Crags (Hebden Bridge)

Just a short walk or drive from our Hebden Bridge bakery, this National Trust woodland is perfect for warm days. Shady paths, riverside trails, and open meadows make it ideal for dogs who love to explore. Pack a picnic, sit by Gibson Mill, and listen to the sound of the water.

Kibble Tip: Swing by before your walk for an iced latte (for you) and a pupspresso (for them) - it’s the perfect pre-hike boost.

2. Bolton Abbey the Strid (near Skipton)

A Yorkshire classic and just 10 minutes from our Skipton cafe. Your dog will love the riverside paths and the famous stepping stones. Find a sunny patch along the river for your picnic and watch the world go by.

Kibble Tip: Grab a our peanut butter dog biscuit, they’re a hit with pups on the go.

3. Malham Cove & Gordale Scar

A short drive from Skipton, this is one for the more adventurous. Dogs will love the varied terrain (keep them on lead near livestock) and you’ll both love the view from the top of Malham Cove.

Kibble Tip: End your walk back in Skipton with a slice of cake and a Kibble Pupcake, the perfect reward for two very good walkers.

4. Hebden Bridge Riverside & Calder Holmes Park

If you’re after a gentle stroll, follow the canal from Hebden Bridge to Mytholmroyd. Stop at Calder Holmes Park for a picnic and let your pup enjoy the open space.

Kibble Tip: Our carrot donut treats are light, healthy, and easy to pack for shorter walks.

5. Fewston & Swinsty Reservoirs (near Harrogate)

A little further afield but worth the trip, this gentle circular walk has water views the whole way. Plenty of shaded spots for a picnic make it great for summer.

Kibble Tip: Take a flask of iced coffee from Kibble and your dog’s favourite treats for a relaxing afternoon by the water.
